second fusion - video/action

[action for violet city + outskirts]

[HEY YOU

YES YOU

ARE YOU ANYWHERE IN OR IMMEDIATELY AROUND THE CITY? DO YOU HAVE YOUR POKEMON OUT? ARE YOU TRAINING THEM TODAY? ARE THEY EVEN JUST KIND OF USING THEIR POWERS?

Because if so, some kid's sauntering up to you with a gleam in his eye and a Houndour at his heels. And if you don't recognize that "when two trainers' eyes meet" kind of look...well, he's gonna ask anyways.]

[Setting: the end of Route 31, by the side of a pond near the Violet City gatehouse. Subject: One Walter,  and one Rattata lounging in his lap, both looking a little roughed-up but otherwise content. Additional details: a busy metal clinking and birdlike humming off somewhere in the background.]

Well, I suppose it's worth the try... [No sooner has he started the video, peered into it, and said that than he flips the Gear around to get an image of the water. A green, tough-looking fish is swimming in slow circles by the pond's edge. Walter continues to speak with the video on the Basculin.] I'd like to sell this creature - to whom, I care not, I'd part with it for a lark to have it away from here. [...He sounds like he's really trying to sound casual about this.] Its abilities are..."Tackle", "Water Gun", and "Uproar". They call it a Basculin. I've not battled with it once, so I...I think it's not loyal to me at all...?

[He flips the Gear back around, shrugging.] I don't recall anything else important about it. 'Tis just a fish...thing. ["Fish thing" indeed. Walter leans back a little and opens his mouth like he's going to say something more, but-

-he is very suddenly interrupted by a hellish metal-on-metal noise, like an iron bar shoved against a table saw. He jumps and bites out a "What in the-!", setting the Gear down, and falls into stunned silence as the sound tapers off. After a second of silence, his Rattata appears over the Gear, then vanishes behind it, propping it up with a snicker. Walter is halfway to his feet, gaping dumbfounded at the Skarmory that had been jogging around in the background before. She's standing at the center of a small pile of what look like steel shavings, looking oddly slender for a Skarmory, wiggling her tail and beaming up at her trainer as though to say look what I did!]

...What the...devil did you....

[With a
patter of her feet and a cheery VROOM VROOM sound (or...as close as a Skarmory can get to that), she takes off like an ostrich, leaving Walter staring speechless after her. (She feels so light and free...!)The Rattata at the Gear is cackling heartily as his trainer glances between Gertrude's retreating figure and the results of her Autotomize technique with his confusion only growing.

....]

...Oh, damn you and your birds-! HOY, GERTRUDE! [Hell if he knows what it just did, but TIME TO GO RETRIEVE THE STUPID THING. He quickly goes to snatch up the Pokegear, and the first half-second of him quarreling with the cameramon is recorded before he grabs it and switches it off.]

((ooc: so autotomize is a hilarious move in concept))

Yeah...you know like... [He taps the side of his head.] Pulling a Professor X and speaking directly into your brain. Some can only communicate with pictures, but others are capable of brain-speech. Again, it just depends.

Nope! [And Atsuro's glad for that. He's already got his budget settled.] But I talked with someone who kinda did before.

[Hagakure shakes his head and shrugs.]

Not really...me and my classmate had to get to Violet really fast so we kinda flew most of the way. Can't really battle when you're in the air, y'know?

Why not? I usually see no reason to break them.

[Just, uh, let's ignore his Internet history as an otaku and gamer. You know, that side of being a gamer.

Yeah, that.
]

Ashura-kai thug? [He doesn't seem to recognise the term.] No, I'm not. I haven't even heard that before.

[HE'S A NEUTRAL, THROUGH AND THROUGH.]

Yeah, I am from Tokyo. My house's in the [insert district here because the mun doesn't know or forgot, but it's outside of the Yamanote Line.]

Um...Yeah. These creatures sure keep finding ways to surprise us, don't they? By the way, I don't think I caught your name before. I'm Makoto Naegi.

Come back, Fleshripper!

[Because Domri isn't going to let one Pokémon have all the fun. Fleshripper happily bounces back over to Domri. Let's see how confident that Rattata is when it sees its opponent.]

Go crush him, Streetbreaker!

[An Onix slithers out and immediately takes the force of the Stealth Rocks and Spikes. 18.75% of his maximum hp gone as soon as he comes out really pisses him off. He roars and silver sparkles come out of his mouth, forming a silver orb of energy that expands until it's bigger than he is. The glow fades to reveal a giant boulder and Streetbreaker bats it at the Rattata with his tail, breaking it and sending a rain of boulders down at the poor rodent who's the recipient of his anger. The move being named Rock Tomb in English, rather than the Japanese Rock Trap, is appropriate, since Streetbreaker wants to bury that fucking rat. Even though the poor thing had nothing to do with the entry hazards, but Streetbreaker isn't really caring about that fact right now.]

"Naegi" is preferred. [ Finally, someone who asks instead of jumping straight to using his first name. Not that he minds, but being called Makoto by strangers is a bit jarring. ]

Um, can I ask why you're trying to sell your Basculin?

I don't think you're a swindler, Walter-san. I'm just wondering why you haven't battled with it at all...shouldn't you give it a chance, even if you don't like it?

'C-Course not!

[It's more like he's expecting it at this point but he doesn't say that. He just sends his strongest Pokemon forward, which happens to be Grey. The Elgyem glances up at Hagakure, and for a moment it looks like they're sharing some sort of conversation even though neither are speaking. Hagakure doesn't seem too confident, but Grey nods anyway and turns to face his opponent.]

What's your dude's level anyway? Grey's like fifteen or sixteen. Somewhere around there.

But.... [ He falls silent for a moment. ] What if it's actually a good partner? I know regular fish don't do much, but Pokémon are so different from normal animals...
